In addition to its own committees, Ubbo Emmius is also affiliated with a number of national and international organisations that organise activities especially for History students.
Galant Gala
Several associations, one of them Ubbo Emmius, organise a yearly gala. This Gala takes place in March, each year with a spectacular theme.
ISHA
The International Student of History Association (ISHA) is an international organisation of students of history. Throughout the academic year, the various member ‘sections’ , take turns organising several seminars and an Annual Conference in various cultural cities in Europe. These events are open for all students of history, those from Groningen too. For more information, click on the image.
USVA
The Usva is the cultural facility of the University of Groningen. Thanks to Usva, the C.U.T.-committee can organise its movie nights and is Ubbo Emmius able to organise the yearly Great Ubbo Play (GUT). Usva organises several other cultural activities and offers various courses. You can find more information on USVA and the events they organise on www.usva.nl.
Jonge Historici
Jonge Historici is a foundation that offers young historians a platform to show their knowledge and skills to the outside world. We do this by publishing theses, essays, columns and reviews by young historians. In addition, Jonge Historici organises many events that optimally highlight the qualities of young historians. Jong KNHG
The Jong KNHG builds a bridge between up-and-coming historians and the rest of the profession. As a special branch within the KNHG (Koninklijk Nederlands Historisch Genootschap), the professional association for (all) historians of the Netherlands, it has a lot of room to spread the youth perspective and give a platform to young talents! AIESEC

Studenten Geschiedenis Nederland
In the Netherlands, there are several cities where you can study History. These cities all have their own study associations. All these associations are affiliated with SGN. Since its founding in 1936 much has changed. Nowadays its most important feat is the annual SGN-day. On this day, History students from across the Netherlands come in contact with each other for a programme of both study related and recreational activities. Be on the look-out for the announcement of this event!
Kleio Amsterdam Kleio has been the study association for history students from Amsterdam university since 1929. The board and her nine committees have since been able to organize a very diverse program of: excursions, study trips, lectures, parties, film screenings and much more! Besides this, we create a lot of fun at our weekly association drinks.
UHSK Utrecht The UHSK, or Utrecht historical student circle, is the student association from history in Utrecht. The association was founded in 1926 and counts 1400 members. With 21 committees and about 100 events a year the UHSK tries to be active both socially and educationally. The USHK room is in the historical city centre of Utrecht and is daily opened from 10:00 till 17:00 and offers students the availability to drink a cup of coffee between lectures.
HSVL Leiden The historical study association Leiden was founded in 1989 as a cooperation between four historical disputes. During the year we organize many activities, parties, trips, book sales and much more. The HSVL has more than 900 members, 11 committees and 6 board members. We can be found in the beautiful Huizinga building at the oldest university of the Netherlands. Please feel free to visit us for our famed cup of “hokkoffie” whenever you visit beautiful Leiden.
ACE Rotterdam During February 1982 the study association for society history was founded. It was called the faculty association society history Rotterdam. During 1990/1991 the study arts and culture sciences joined the faculty which resulted in the creation of a new study association called: Histartes, a combination between history and arts. To make the association more accessible to international students, the name of our association was changed to International Faculty Association ACE. Currently the study association of the Erasmus University faculty of history has about 800 members with 12 active committees. The committees organise all events during the academic year.
GSV Excalibur Nijmegen The GSV Excalibur, or History Students Association Excalibur, is the study association from the history study in Nijmegen. The association exists since 1984 and is housed within the Arts faculty. The GSV is one of the biggest and most active study associations in Nijmegen. During the entire year, a substantial number of committees organise a diverse number of activities for more than 600 members of the association. The association is characterised by its open and democratic character and this means that everyone is always welcome!
